Almost 40% of smart phones shipped to EMEA are GPS enabled

The number of GPS enabled smart phones shipped to EMEA in Q2 2008 has increased by 28% for the same period in 2007. Nokia takes the first position with around 70% of the total shipments. As indicated by Nokia all of its new smart phones will be GPS enabled. RIM takes the second position with 7% of the total shipments..

The impact on location based services can't be ignored specially in the area of personal safety that has been lagging other Location based services. Personal safety requires high location accuracy which is now available by GPS and A-GPS technology. Accuracy is crucial when it comes to people's lives.
